Sam’s on the Beach

Incredible views of crashing waves, a laid back child friendly atmosphere, scrubbed pine tables, wonderful wines and simply delicious fresh food. If seafood is your thing then you will be in seventh heaven. If not, there is also a great selection of other delicious locally sourced food. I can particularly recommend the pizza’s; freshly baked, delicious and huge. Our friendly waitress was great and brought a box over for my left over pizza with the bill as standard! It is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a cold glass of wine and a bite to eat for a couple of hours.

Sam’s also has a restaurant and cocktail bar in Fowey itself. We has a great night out there, Surf and Turf all around. The cocktails were delicious and the barman was suitably flamboyant and entertaining as well! The music and atmosphere were great, even mid week. Be warned that you can not book so you have to be prepared to wait for a table but this is no hardship with a great selection of cocktails ready to be sampled! The best night out we have had with a group of friends this year!

Pinky Murphy's Cafe

Pinky Murphy’s

If you’re in Fowey, then pop down to Pinky Murphy’s Cafe near the Albert Quay.

Wonderfully relaxed atmosphere with a simple but tasty and value for money menu.  Great selection for veggies, including a Veggie Platter and some great soups.

The interior is a wild array of colours and textures with beach towels, bean bags, comfy chairs, and some lovingly collected nik naks  all there to give the place a unique, unforgettable feel.  You can’t help but smile when you enter the cafe and leave with an even bigger smile on your face.

Wind in the Willows River trip

The Wind in the Willows River Trip – Fowey

Fowey has been a draw for many an artisan and author, one of which was Kenneth Grahame who visited Fowey Hall in 1899, and many think used the Hall as inspiration for ‘Toad Hall’.  During his time in Fowey, he would often spend time on the river and write tales the bank that would eventually become ‘Wind in the Willows’.

There is a wonderful river trip to Lerryn on which is a Blue Badge Guide who will explain the history and the inspiration behind Grahames’s works and point out various sights along the way. Its a magnificent way to spend an afternoon and helps you understand the reason why Grahamme and many other authors have spent time here writing and relaxing.

Fowey Hall Hotel

Fowey Hall – Fowey

Fowey Hall is a stunning place to stay, with an amazing location overlooking Fowey and the river estuary.  The Hall dates from 1899 and offers its visitors a taste of the splendour envisaged by it’s builder, the 1st Baronet of Fowey.  The Hall entertained royalty and political leaders during its life before being converted into the most magnificent hotel we see today.

Surrounding the Hall are some excellent walled gardens and it’s a great base to explore beyond and the attractions nearby, such as the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan.  However, should you wish to stay and relax, you can enjoy a marvellous dinner in the two AA rosette awarded restaurant or spend a well earned afternoon in the Fowey Hall Spa.  It’s a hard life!

Fowey Hall Hotel Room

The Hall also boasts an interesting historical twist, supposedly being the inspiration behind Toad Hall, written by Kenneth Grahame who was almost certainly entertained at Fowey Hall during his frequent visits to the coast.

The hall caters for all ages and children are welcome and can use the Den, a special club for kids which they will love.  They also allow dogs for a small extra charge and will help you find dog friendly place to visit.
