Runaway Coast are introducing a special series of awards to help celebrate the British coast.
During the year, we’ve had some fantastic coastal businesses and enterprises recommended by our Coastal Spy network and we feel its important to do what we can to help promote these to a wider audience.
We’ve also discovered many inspirational tales of people campaigning and coming together to make the coastal environment they live in a better place, or to help preserve what is great about the British Coast. We want to help recognise the tremendous work these individuals and organisations do and help ensure the British Coast remains the best place to Play, Eat, Stay or Shop.
Runaway Coast are inviting nominees in various categories by the 31st December 2011 with the winners announced on 13th February 2012. If you know of any organisation, person or business who you think deserve the title ‘Coastal Champion’, we want to know about them. The categories are:
Coastal Campaign of the Year
- This award is to for all those who have campaigned for coastal issues over the past year. It can involve anything from a national campaign to a local issue. What the judges will be looking at is the impact of the campaign and how it has helped raise awareness.

Coastal Hero of the Year
- This award is for any individual or organisation who have gone that extra mile in helping those around them, either during the whole year or perhaps as a single heroic event.

Coastal Community of the Year
- Coastal communities can face some very challenging and unique problems. This award is for the group who have pulled together in order to meet the challenges presented by a specific issue and helped to improve their coastal community.

Coastal Event of the Year
- The British coast provides the stage for some wonderful events offering fun and excitement for residents and visitors alike. What have been the best you visited this year and why?

The Play Coastal Award
- This award is for the best place to play by the coast. It can be anything from an amazing beach to a fun and unusual attraction. Where on the coast did you have the most fun this year?

The Shop Coastal Award
- This award is for the best coastal retailer of the year. Perhaps they sell innovative and extraordinary products or are just the very best at what they do. We want to know who they are and why you think they qualify for a Shop Coastal Award.

The Eat Coastal Award
- This award will be for any of the hundreds of incredible places to eat and drink dotted around the British Coast. The British coast can be the inspiration behind some wonderful eating experiences from simple Fish and Chips to Michelin Star rated restaurants. What has tickled your taste buds this past year?

Eat Coastal Food Provider of the Year
- Who makes the best food from the British Coast? The riches we find around the coast mean we are blessed with some remarkable food providers who deliver some sensational food and drink to enjoy. Who do you think is a Food Provider of the Year? They could simply offer divine flavours, produce in an unconventional way or go that step further in helping sustainability and the coastal environment.

The Stay Coastal Award
- Where is the best place to stay around our coast and why? The British coast is such a magnificent place to stay millions of us flock to beaches, holiday cottages and B&Bs to spend some quality time by the sea. Which places offered a unique and wonderful experience and why should others drop everything to stay there next year?

Coastal Art of the Year
- The British coast helps influence and inspire artists of all generations. This award is for the Coastal artist who has helped capture how great our coast is and the people who live there. Anything from large sculptures to amateur crafts can be nominated. We just want to know whose work has inspired you.
